Snapchat Acquires Saturn, A Calendar App For High School and College Students

Snapchat Acquires Saturn App

Saturn

Snapchat is acquiring Saturn, a calendar app designed for high school and college students. The app includes features built around student life, like block schedules, sortable calendars, and tools to manage extracurriculars.

The deal terms weren’t shared, but Saturn will continue to run as a standalone app for now. Saturn’s roughly 30 full-time employees will join Snapchat as part of the acquisition.

According to Snapchat, 80 percent of U.S. high school students attend schools that currently support Saturn.

Why It Matters: With this, Snapchat is doubling down on deepening its connection with younger audiences, especially Gen Z

While Saturn will stay separate initially, it’s likely that Snapchat will bring some of its features into the main app. That could make it easier for users to coordinate plans and hang out with friends based on their school schedules.
