TikTok Doubles Down on Creator-Led Microdramas With Made By Us Studios Deal

TikTok is doubling down its microdrama push with a new deal with Made By Us Studios to co-produce a slate of creator-led microdramas for TikTok and its dedicated microdrama app, PineDrama.
The first projects include Player, a romantic revenge thriller starring creator and co-producer Hannah Stocking, and The Knock, a new genre series featuring Adam Rose and actor Zaria Simone.
The deal follows TikTok’s partnership with Issa Rae’s HOORAE, which debuted with Screen Time. The series has generated more than 500 million views globally across TikTok and PineDrama, including 20 million in its first 24 hours.
Why it matters: The global microdrama market is expected to reach $14 billion by the end of 2026, with the U.S. on track to become the largest market outside China. By taking a more direct role in production, TikTok can bring more content to its platforms, keep viewers engaged longer, open up new revenue streams, and give creators another way to earn.
Whether starring in microdramas, working behind the scenes, or doing both, creators could become a bigger part of the format’s growth. Their built-in audiences and experience creating mobile-first, short-form content make them attractive talent for platforms, studios, and brands looking to reach viewers where they already spend time.
TikTok may be ahead of the competition, but other platforms are also showing interest in the format. YouTube has seen microdrama watch time grow 50% year over year, while Snapchat reports that 51% of its daily users watch microdramas daily. Meta is also attracting advertising investment from microdrama companies along with piloting a Series feature for creators.
What once seemed like a niche format or passing trend is showing signs of staying power as platforms look to bring more original content to their feeds.
