Spotify Will Soon Let Creators Offer Patreon-Like Memberships to Fans

Spotify Creator Memberships

During its recent Investor Day 2026, Spotify announced that it will launch Memberships this summer.

Memberships are a set of tools that allow eligible creators to offer subscriptions to their fans for new and exclusive content and experiences, such as early access to podcasts and bonus episodes.

Spotify says creators will own the relationship with their audience, as they will be able to import and export subscriber data across platforms. Creators will also have access to intelligence tools that provide actionable insights on how to grow their membership business.

Why It Matters: Memberships join a growing list of monetization options for Spotify podcast creators that include ad revenue and premium video revenue through the Spotify Partner Program and Creator Sponsorships, a tool that allows creators to manage host-read ads and insert or remove them dynamically instead of baking them directly into a podcast episode.

While Spotify will continue to allow creators to distribute gated content through its Spotify Open Access program, launching its own native Memberships feature positions the company more similarly to platforms like Patreon, YouTube, and Substack, where creators can earn recurring revenue from paid subscriptions.

By giving podcasters more ways to generate revenue, Spotify is enabling creators to lean into the business models that best fit their audiences while also diversifying their income streams. Together, these offerings could make Spotify more attractive to creators looking to manage more of their business in one place rather than stitching together multiple tools and services.
