YouTube Doubles YouTube Partner Program Eligibility Requirements For New Creators
YouTube
YouTube announced upcoming changes to the entry thresholds to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) for new channels.
Starting in February, new channels applying to YPP will need 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days to be eligible to earn from ads and YouTube Premium.
Why it matters: Marking its first significant update to YPP since 2018, the change doubles the bar for entry, making it harder for new creators, especially those focused on Shorts, to qualify. While it’s not what creators want to hear, the move reflects YouTube’s effort to recalibrate revenue sharing around its most active creators and the long-term sustainability of the program.
